Lucrecia Herrera is a mixed media artist who focuses on screen printing and analog photography. She explores embodiment of human figures and scenarios of daily life through the physiological and emotional stillness of a frozen memory. Working with a limited color palette, she envisions intimate moments layered in a flattening mode, balancing a control and vulnerability based on the images that are depicted.
“I am interested in how flattening and simplification can intensify, rather than diminish, psychological depth.”
The figures are normally suspended and isolated, stripped out of a context and background, allowing the viewer to envision it’s setting. This allows the emotions of the eyes or rather lack of them to tell you, a spectator, their own story as portrayed. Viewing and being viewed.
This way of work allows to use the body as an emotional projection, rather than representation.
Lucrecia´s method in screen printing of hand cut stencils defeats the purpose of the traditional printing technique. Thus, it disregards repetition, leaving only single prints.
